If you’re wanting to get down and dirty with gardening at all times, but are unable to be in your garden at all times, gardening podcasts may be perfect for you! I love listening to gardening podcasts on long drives when I have to be away from my garden, in the winter time when I can’t garden, when I’m cooking, relaxing, and basically every single second of free time that I have. As such, I’ve listened to a huge number of podcasts about gardening and have created a list of the 5 best podcasts about gardening for you.
This gardening podcast is hosted by Don Schmidt and Laura Kennedy. Together they tackle a wide array of gardening topics from wintertime chores to bat-related gardening to growing sunflowers. This is a great podcast to listen to and has about 20 years worth of material within it.
This podcast is hosted by Jennifer Ebeling. It’s a very pleasant and informative podcast that usually interviews influential people in the gardening (or related) industries. She has interviewed some amazing individuals, such as Joel Karsten (of straw bale gardening), Julia Coffey (of Seeds Trust), and Emily Tepe (of The Edible Landscape). Although there are only 22 episodes of this podcast each episode is extremely interesting and I heartily recommend listening to them, as they are both endearing and informative.
Charlie Dobbin supplies callers and listeners with great advice on gardening. Charlie has a great rapport with his callers and is obviously extremely experienced in gardening. One thing I love about this program is that all of Charlie’s advice is very practical and well thought out, making it easy for you to incorporate ideas into your own garden. This is one podcast that’s worth listening to!
2. GLT’s Grow
Although each podcast episode is only about 10 minutes long, hosts Patrick Murphy and Laura Kennedy really deliver in answering gardening-related questions. For instance, there was one episode that I really loved where they covered the topic of getting rid of scale in a variety of different ways, one of which included getting a scale eating lizard. There’s some really interesting stuff in this podcast and the vibe between “Murph” and Laura is always energetic and excited. This podcast is definitely one you’ll want to hear.
This gardening podcast is hosted by a Mike McGrath, a world-renown organic gardener. Each episode is chock full of a wide range of gardening tips that will be sure to help gardeners of any level of expertise–whether you’re just starting out, or have been gardening for decades. Each episode is broken down into two or three main sections. The first section is composed of people calling in to ask specific gardening-related questions. The second section is where Mike McGrath and his producers will talk about a particular subject in depth. Sometimes the show will have guests to talk about specific topics, which comprises a third section. This show is really a repository of knowledge, and I would recommend it to anyone.
So, that’s the run-down on the best podcasts that I’ve found. I’d love to hear any of your thoughts on what podcasts you’d recommend!
